With 102 fatalities, the county also is one of only two in Northern California with at least 100.

Alameda County: Nearly 70 new cases per day over past week
The county put 48 more cases on its ledger Wednesday, and has added an average of 69.2 per day over the past week. It took two weeks for the case load to rise from 3,000 to 4,000 after taking 16 days to go from 2,000 to 3,000. The Hispanic/Latino population, which comprises approximately 22% of the population, has been most profoundly hit, with 47% of the cases (1,888) affecting them.
The Hispanic and Latino population also make up about one in every four of the county’s 105 COVID-19 deaths. The white population, which comprises about half of the county’s overall population, and the Hispanic/Latino population each have counted 29 fatalities.
Hospitals were treating 94 patients, including 32 in intensive-care units, figures that have creeped up slightly in the past couple of days.
Contra Costa County: Average of 40 new cases per day for a week
A day after a pandemic-high for new daily cases (68), the county recorded 24 more to leave it two shy of 1,800 during the pandemic. It marked the lowest daily count in a week that has seen an average of 40 new cases per day, also a pandemic-high.
The county did not record a death for the first time in four days, ending a three-day run with at least one that had been the longest since mid-April. Forty-three people in the county have died in the pandemic.
The hospital count also went down by three to 20, a day after hitting its highest mark since May 15.
San Mateo County: Only five COVID-19 patients in ICU
The county closed in on 2,500 confirmed cases, with another 38 putting its overall number at 2,475. It’s been a week since fewer than 30 cases have been added in a single day.
One positive trend: Only five COVID-19 patients were being treated in hospital ICU’s, a figure that has stayed in single digits since Saturday.
The death count remained at 38, including nine in June.
San Francisco: New cases slow over past five days
The city’s case load grew by only 16, the second straight day fewer than 20 have been added. The 30 new cases recorded over the past two days were fewer than Monday’s single-day count, and the city is averaging 28 per day over the past week — though only about 22 per day over the past five.
Fourteen people were in the ICU being treated for the virus, and another 24 were in emergency rooms. The city had its full allotment of beds set aside for a surge.
There have been 44 deaths from COVID-19 but only one has been recorded over the past nine days.
