A Colorado state lawmaker announced Thursday that she tested positive for the novel coronavirus and is isolating with her family.
Rep. Dafna Michaelson Jenet, D-Commerce City, said her test results came back Thursday morning confirming she had COVID-19.
“I am staying quarantined at home, and my children and husband are self-isolating,” she said in a statement from House Democrats. “We will all get through this together, and I look forward to seeing my friends, colleagues and constituents when I’m better and no longer at risk of spreading the virus to others.”
Michaelson Jenet said she had bronchitis for much of March, but got tested for coronavirus after beginning to show symptoms. Her doctors think she likely contracted the virus within the last few days, she said.
She’s the first state lawmaker confirmed to have the virus. The legislature voted to adjourn the session Saturday through March 30 in response to the governor’s declared state of emergency and the growing pandemic. The Capitol building was also shut down indefinitely to members of the public.
This is a developing story and will be updated.
