BYRON — A California Highway Patrol motor officer was flown to a hospital for treatment of suspected serious injury Thursday after a solo crash on an East Bay roadway, authorities said.

Shortly after 11:15 a.m., East Contra Costa Fire District firefighters responded to reports of the crash on Vasco Road south of Camino Diablo and arrived to find a CHP motor officer down off the roadway.

After providing medical care alongside paramedics, firefighters worked to set up a landing area for a medical helicopter, and a CHP Golden Gate Division air operations helicopter flew the officer to John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek for treatment. His condition was not immediately available Thursday night.

In a statement posted to social media, the CHP said the officer had been driving southbound when he lost control of his motorcycle after it struck an object in the roadway, sending it into a guardrail along the right shoulder.

There were no other reported injuries, and the exact cause remains under investigation. Anyone with information may call the CHP’s Contra Costa office at 925-646-4980.
