China’s President Xi Jinping now supports an independent investigation in regard to the coronavirus pandemic — just not the one the entire civilized world has been calling for.
Xi’s announcement was packed with weasel-word qualifications: He’s for a probe of the “global response” to COVID-19, which doesn’t necessarily cover his own government’s failings and lies.
And the Xi-endorsed investigation only begins after the pandemic has been beaten — and wouldn’t look into the virus’ origins. More, he wants the World Health Organization to lead the probe — when the WHO’s record of endorsing Beijing’s deceptions is a significant part of what needs investigating.
Indeed, the European Union-drafted resolution presented at WHO’s world conference this week, which is supported by more than 100 nations, specifies examination of WHO’s actions.
Meanwhile, Beijing just imposed hefty tariffs on Australia, whose prime minister first called for a truly independent review of how the pandemic began.
Best bet? Xi will eventually agree to a full investigation — after he’s certain his minions have destroyed any and all evidence of Beijing’s wrongdoings.
