The layoffs come after the company already parted ways with 5,520 employees via voluntary buyout packages, leaving approximately 4,000 more layoffs expected to come over the next few months. The 16,000 jobs are about 10% of Boeing’s total workforce, CNN says, and is made up almost exclusively of Americans working in the company’s commercial aircraft division.
