The Boston College men’s and women’s basketball programs are both currently on pause out of “an abundance of caution” following positive COVID-19 tests within the programs, a school spokesman confirmed to Boston.com on Saturday.
“Both programs remain in COVID protocols, resulting in the postponement of the upcoming games,” the spokesman said.
On the men’s side, BC’s game vs. Virginia Tech, originally scheduled for Wednesday, Jan. 20, and its matchup with Pittsburgh, originally scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 23, were postponed after a positive test. Quarantining and contact tracing followed, according to the school.
The Eagles’ next game is currently scheduled for Wednesday, Jan. 27, at Clemson and it remains to be seen whether or not the Virginia Tech and Pittsburgh games will be made up.
For the women, their matchup with Clemson, originally scheduled for Thursday, Jan. 21, was postponed following a positive test within the BC program. The Pittsburgh at Boston College game, originally set for Sunday, Jan. 24, and the Florida State at BC game, originally slated for Thursday, Jan. 28, were also postponed.
Their next scheduled matchup is at Miami on Sunday, Jan. 31.
The men are currently 3-10 (1-6 Atlantic Coast Conference) and the women are 5-7 (1-7 ACC) despite posting a 5-2 record at home.
