With a late-spring heat wave expected to take temperatures well over 100 degrees in some Bay Area communities Wednesday through Friday, communities began opening cooling centers to help citizens who may not have access to air conditioning cope with the sweltering weather.
Officials in both Contra Costa and Santa Clara counties made clear that despite the state’s reopening and relaxed mask rules that began Tuesday, masks will be required for all visitors inside the cooling centers, regardless of vaccination status.
