Avalanche coach Jared Bednar will not coach the club through its last two preseason games, after testing positive for COVID-19.

The Avs said assistants Ray Bennett and Nolan Pratt will coach the team until Bednar’s return.

Colorado plays at the Dallas Stars on Thursday night and then hosts the Stars in Saturday’s preseason finale.

The Avs’ home opener is Wednesday, Oct. 13 against the Chicago Blackhawks at Ball Arena.

At his preseason-opening press conference, Bednar said the team hoped that all personnel would be 100% vaccinated from COVID-19. However, new free-agent signees Stefan Matteau and Roland MacKeown missed the start of training camp because of positive tests.
