Americans are handling the coronavirus pandemic by binging on snacks, boozing and beefing up their home-cooking skills, a new poll found.
About 40% of people say they’ve been eating more snack foods since the outbreak began, with 26% admitting they’re finding comfort in chocolate, specifically, according to a Harris Poll of 2,013 US adults conducted over the weekend.
One in five said they are guzzling more alcohol, though that number was higher, at 30%, among those 18 to 35 — or millennials and Gen-Zers.
But sodas were more popular than spirits, with one in four saying they’ve been indulging in soft drinks.
Better habits are also being built, with 68% of respondents eating more home-cooked meals and 40% saying they are having more fresh foods.
When it came to venturing outside the home, 67% said they believed wearing masks should be mandated in public.
And 72% said that businesses should have the right to refuse service to someone not wearing a face mask.
If wearing protective face coverings in public were to be made mandatory, 64% said those who don’t comply should face fines.
