An Amazon warehouse in New Jersey has temporarily shut down after an increase in asymptomatic cases of COVID-19 among its workers, a new report said.
On Saturday, the company informed employees at a facility in Robbinsville Township that the location, known as PNE5, will be closed until Dec. 26, CNBC reported.
Amazon spokesperson Lisa Levandowski confirmed the closure to the news outlet.
“Through our in-house COVID-19 testing program, we detected an increase in the number of asymptomatic positive cases at our PNE5 facility in northern New Jersey and have proactively closed the site until December 26th out of an abundance of caution,” Levandowski said.
“This is exactly why we built the program — to identify asymptomatic cases and ensure that we can take swift action to prevent spread.”
Employees at PNE5 will be paid for any shifts they miss due to the shut down, the report said. It’s unclear how many asymptomatic COVID-19 cases were detected at the facility.
