A Somerville pub and music venue will not reopen 1

Another local restaurant and music venue has come to the end of the line.

Bull McCabe’s Irish pub in Somerville’s Union Square will not reopen, according to an announcement on the pub’s Facebook page.

Bull McCabe’s owner Brian Manning cited the COVID-19 pandemic among the reasons behind the decision to close.

“The last six months have taken an incredible toll on all of us,” the statement said. “And while the restaurant/bar/music venue industry as a whole has been decimated, Mom-and-Pop shops like ours, especially, have been crushed. We’re a 780 sq.-ft music venue, not easily-aligned with social distancing, and we have been struggling to stay afloat for a long time.”

Manning also cited “legal battles, construction, [and] an ever-changing neighborhood” as other factors that have “made it increasingly difficult for us over the past few years.”
