“I’ve always felt being a nurse, you work with a lot of different people,” Merrill said. “I really want to make people feel like normal people. When I started the bakery, that’s what I wanted to be — that welcoming face. We put personal messages on things. Why do you love it? Someone said, ‘It feels like home.’ ”
