This Elaborate Homemade Hamster Maze From TikTok Is The Cure For Your Quarantine Blues 1

A creative and intricate hamster maze is catching the attention of viewers on TikTok and Reddit. The delightful creation was captured by TikTok user @homuraham and incorporates a fruity drink for an extra bit of sweetness.

The homemade maze looks like a giant Fanta Orange can and is full of multiple levels. Created for a hamster named Pixie (according to a @homuraham’s Instagram account), the multilayer, multiroom masterwork allows the pet to explore textural landscape while being challenged to find the tube leading to the next, lower level.

The hamster maze skyrocketed the app user to the For You page and tons of attention, and @homuraham’s account has 1.1 million followers. The maze video is showing 15.6 million plays and 3 million likes, but it is far from the only viral video on the TikTok account.

The Fanta can is unique. Each round level is colorful and seems to be decorated with a different theme. Features range from citrus wallpaper to what appears to be a fake swimming pool.

Some Reddit users sounded a critical note, however. Comments claimed the Fanta design was nothing but annoying marketing. “Someone being the Fanta marketing department,” read the top comment by user SamRothstein72.

Meanwhile, comments on TikTok were celebratory. “WAIT AWWW THIS NEEDS MILLIONS OF LIKES,” wrote @mariam.chami. Another responded with similar enthusiasm. “The fact that you put this much effort in for a maze, I just [tearful emoji] he looks so happy,” said @sunflwrprincss.

This isn’t the first intricate maze from the TikToker. At the end of February, @homuraham debuted a hospital-themed maze with similar, uniquely designed layers.

One of the most popular creations on the account seems to be a waterpark-themed play space for Pixie. The video debuted February 8 and has since gained over 4 million views on TikTok. Another, with 10 million views, shows an ultrarealistic Learning Tower of Pisa with candy-colored décor inside.

Each design has something in common. The play spaces use lots of textures, like pom-poms, tissue paper and toothpicks, to create a stimulating environment. They also come with possible distractions and obstacles that could confuse the hamster from finding the exit. Still, it seems Pixie is great at navigating the courses and is able to find her way out rather quickly.

What’s possibly more inviting, though, is how colorful and joyful each scene is for viewers. Watching a hamster navigate a beautiful, exciting new space that’s clearly been designed with love and creativity is inspiring in a time of otherwise bleak news and uncertainty. Pixie is adorable, too, and makes for a cuddly bonus.

This may be why every video posted by @homuraham gains hundreds of thousands of views, if not millions. The Instagram account is just as exciting. There, viewers will find similar videos as well as some additional hamsters named Homura, Luna and Joey.
