The High Line announces limited reopening after coronavirus

Manhattan’s High Line is set for a socially-distanced reopening this month that will include reservations as the Big Apple slowly begins to get back to life, following the devastating coronavirus pandemic.

“We are happy to be able to reopen the High Line and we invite our neighbors and fellow New Yorkers across the City to reconnect with the High Line and each other in a new way,” said Robert Hammond, the executive director of the High Line, in a statement.

“Throughout the pandemic, we have really seen how important parks and public spaces are to our physical, emotional, and spiritual wellbeing,” he added.

“As New York City and our immediate neighborhoods continue to reopen and recover, we hope the High Line will bring comfort and happiness to all who are able to visit.”

The popular West Side attraction will be making a slew of changes in order to ensure that New Yorkers can keep six feet apart while they stroll along the former elevated railroad track-turned-park when it reopens July 16.

Visitors will be required to enter along Gansevoort Street and the staircases at 14th, 16th, 20th, and 23rd streets will become exit only to reduce potential crowding.

Furthermore, officials will only allow a limited number of entrances at any given time and are setting up a reservations website where Gothamites can book time slots for their visit, beginning July 9. A limited number of passes will also be available on a walk-up basis, too.

And the park will be open just eight hours a day, from noon until 8 p.m.
