Sky guard Sydney Colson revealed on Twitter Saturday morning that she tested positive for the coronavirus this week.
“I do the least and tested positive so I’m tryna see how folks who do the mooost are out here partying and feelin grand,” Colson tweeted.
Colson’s announcement comes during the same week the Sky welcomed back their out-of-market players to begin individual workouts at Sachs Recreation Center, their practice facility in Deerfield. Coach James Wade told the Sun-Times Monday that he expected his entire team to be in Chicago this week, though it’s unclear if Colson and Jantel Lavender are there as they have been noticeable absent from their teammates’ social-media posts
Colson, whom the Sky signed this offseason to backup point guard Courtney Vandersloot, is the second Sky player who has tested positive for the coronavirus.
Center Stefanie Dolson said in April that her entire family tested positive for the coronavirus.
Earlier this month, the WNBPA approved a tentative plan to start an abbreviated 22-game season in late July at the IMG Academy campus in Bradenton, Florida — a state where COVID-19 cases continue to rise at an alarming rate.
Several Sky players have expressed hesitation about playing a season amid the pandemic.
“I think it’s a bit rushed,” Sky guard/forward Gabby Williams said last week of the league’s move to start the season as early as July 24. “I’m not sure that anybody has the answers to everything right now as far as safety and protocol. There’s still a lot of things that are unanswered, so I am definitely really nervous, for sure. It’s just kind of like, what kind of sacrifices am I willing to make?”
Williams also acknowledged having a season is “super risky.”
