San Mateo County reports six new coronavirus deaths 1

San Mateo County reported six new deaths from the novel coronavirus since last Friday, bringing the total death toll to 82, as the 10-county Bay Area nears 13,000 coronavirus cases.

San Mateo County trails Santa Clara and Alameda counties in COVID-19 deaths, with Santa Clara reporting 139 deaths and Alameda reporting 93 since the pandemic began. San Mateo also noted 71 new cases Tuesday for a total of 1,904, the fourth-most in the Bay Area. Fifty-two people are hospitalized with the illness, with 16 people in the intensive-care unit.

San Francisco County meanwhile reported 13 new cases for a total of 2,399, but no new deaths. The death toll has remained steady at 40 since last Friday, when it reported three new deaths.

Santa Clara, Alameda and Contra Costa counties had yet to update their COVID-19 data as of 10 a.m. Tuesday.
