SAN JOSE — The California Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal collision involving a big-rig truck and motorcycle that closed several Interstate 880 lanes Sunday, authorities said.

Just before 6 p.m., CHP officers responded to reports of a collision in southbound I-880 just north of Highway 101, CHP Officer Damian Cistaro said.

When officers arrived, they found a motorcyclist lying in the No. 3 lane and provided emergency life-saving care until San Jose Fire Department firefighters responded, taking him to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.

CHP officers issued a Sig-alert closing the Nos. 3 through 5 lanes of southbound I-880 at 6:32 p.m., opening some lanes at 8:40 p.m. and all lanes by 9:05 p.m. The big-rig truck’s driver stayed at the scene and cooperated with investigators, Cistaro said.

Anyone with information should call the CHP’s San Jose office at 408-467-5400.
