Revealed: ‘Struggling’ bar owner in Biden campaign ad is a
wealthy investor who supported lockdowns 1

ANN ARBOR, MI – In a recently aired advertisement for Joe Biden’s effort to take the White House, NFL viewers were met with that sad story of a man named Joe Malcoun, who presented himself as the co-owner of a Michigan bar/music venue called The Blind Pig that has been struggling due to the pandemic shutdowns.

And now people are calling out both Joe Biden and Malcoun for misleading viewers of the advertisement.

During this advertisement for Biden’s presidency, Malcoun portrayed himself as being a struggling co-owner of this business and directly blamed President Donald Trump’s response to the pandemic as being the reason for the now-desolate venue and bar.

Malcoun prefaced the ad as having been a staple in the community for decades, yet now the venue remains empty because of President Trump:

“The Blind Pig has been one of those clubs that attract artists from all genres. For 50 years, the Blind Pig has been open and crowded, but right now, it’s an empty room. This is the reality of Trump’s Covid response. We don’t know how much longer we can survive without any revenue.”

In an effort to evoke a sense of relatability between himself and other small business owners, Malcoun likened his situation to that of other eateries and watering hole owners facing hardships and framed this as all being part of President Trump’s “economy”:

“A lot of restaurants and bars that have been mainstays for years will not make it through this. This is Donald Trump’s economy: There is no plan and you don’t know how to go forward. It makes me so angry.

“My only hope for my family and for this business and my community is that Joe Biden wins this election.”

Funnily enough, Malcoun isn’t just a bar co-owner on the brink of shuttering his business…he’s also a pretty well-to-do tech CEO and has invested in numerous start-ups.

Malcoun has quite a bit going on in his life.

He’s a board member for the ACLU in Michigan, he’s the CEO of the CRM software company Nutshell, he’s the co-founder of the rent-a-workspace company called Cahoots, and also the founder of A2 Helps which is a company that accepts donations to help businesses struggling with pandemic shutdowns.

Hey – maybe A2 Helps can donate money to The Blind Pig!

But aside from his numerous income streams that likely showcase that he’s going to be just fine – let’s talk about why Malcoun’s music venue/bar is closed. Is it really President Trump’s fault?

No.

The Blind Pig is based out of Michigan.

There’s only one person who is directly responsible with these sorts of businesses being closed, and it’s not President Trump.

It’s due to Governor Gretchen Whitmer.

And you had better believe that people online were calling out the ad for trying to characterize The Blind Pig suffering financially due to President Trump.

One Twitter user pointed out that very sentiment, writing:

“The Blind Pig commercial is trying to blame the lockdowns on Trump? Hate to break it to you Trump has nothing to do with your bar being empty, let me guess you live in a Democrat run city. This ad is dishonest gaslighting, wouldn’t expect anything less from you [Joe Biden].”

And other people online are asking what exactly Joe Biden’s plan would be to get these sorts of venues operating again.

One person sarcastically drummed up the following on Twitter:

“Someone explain the “Blind Pig” [Joe Biden] ad. What is Joe’s plan? Open everything up and get the economy going? Hmmm…sounds vaguely familiar. Idiot.”

And explain why Biden would suddenly make The Blind Pig just open right back up, when he was quoted by CNN back in August of this year where he’d entertain a national shutdown of segments of the economy if he was advised to:

“I would shut it down. I would listen to the scientists.”

And you can believe that people also remember Biden saying those words – as one Twitter user shared the ad with a caption above it saying:

“How is Joe Biden, the candidate who wants to lock down the entire country, going to save venues? This ad just said ‘orange man bad. Biden good.’”

But hey, if Malcoun wants to vote for Biden, that’s certainly on him. But for him to blame the current situation effecting The Blind Pig on President Trump is a gross misdirection.
