LOS ANGELES COUNTY, CA – Among the scenery that unfolded outside of the hospital where the two ambushed L.A. County Sheriff’s Department deputies were being treated, one of the protesters that had gathered out front of the hospital hurled some demonstrably disturbing remarks about the injured deputies.

So when the man behind such remarks as “I hope they fucking die” while standing outside of the hospital where the deputies were fighting for their lives was identified, the man doubled down and said he wasn’t sorry one bit.
Kevin Wharton Price was one of the men outside of the hospital on the evening of September 12th after the shooting of the two deputies took place.
In a Facebook video that Price posted on September 14th, he went on for nearly 15 minutes noting how he wasn’t “going to she no tears” because “two slave-catchers from Compton got popped.”

Posted by Kevin Wharton Price on Sunday, September 13, 2020
During the video, Price also claimed that there were no acts of protesters trying to block entryways for the hospital and that no one was attempting to force their way into the hospital where the deputies were being treated.
Kevin Wharton Price, leader of the Afrika Town Coalition and advisor to LA Mayor Garcetti, commented on the 2 cops in Compton who were shot in the head. ‘Celebrate today because the oppressor has been slain.’ ‘This lightens my heart.’ ‘a start of retribution’ ‘a very good start.’

While Price’s versions of events are debatable since police have reported quite the opposite about blocked entryways into the facility, Price did clarify that he is not with Black Lives Matter. Instead, Price says he’s part of a group called “Africa Town Coalition”.
The group, abbreviated as ATC, has gained some press in years past, most notably from the Los Angeles Times. However, the press generated at that time – with Price even having been interviewed in 2018 – was for the group’s effort to rename various areas across the country as “Africa Town” while making them autonomous from the United States.
When speaking about these efforts at the time, Price stated the following:
“Everybody knows our origins come from Africa…And Africa speaks specifically to our experience.”
But flash forward to September 14th of 2020, and you have Price referring to LASD deputies as “gang banging sheriffs” and that he intends to celebrate every time a law enforcement officer is murdered:
“And when you die, and your blood spills on the street, we’re going to celebrate.”
But the video from September 14th wasn’t the only video where Price was celebrating the shooting against these two deputies. In a livestream from Facebook, that was later uploaded to YouTube, Price was espousing the same type of rhetoric:
“I just want to inform everybody that two sheriff’s deputies were sitting at the Compton Metro station and an unknown assailant walked up and bust a cap on both of them. Shot them in the head, alright. And he got away – they have no suspect, no identity, no nothing. So, I mean, what are we supposed to do, y’all? We’re supposed to celebrate today because the oppressor has been slain.”
[embedded content]Price, in the video, acts as though the unwarranted attack against the two deputies is a form of “retribution” that is justified:
“If this is a start of retribution, then I think this is a very good start.”
A lot transpired during the scene that occurred outside of the hospital following the shooting of the two deputies. Here’s the background on what has been uncovered so far.
LOS ANGELES COUTY, CA – Further details have come out regarding the various displays that took place on September 13th outside of the hospital where two L.A. County Sheriff’s deputies were being treated after having been shot during an ambush styled attack.
A press member that was previously reported as being arrested at the hospital has been identified as an NPR affiliate reporter.

The person arrested was identified as Josie Huang, who serves as an “Asian American Communities Correspondent” with the NPR affiliate 89.3 KPCC.
KPCC’s executive editor, Megan Garvey, confirmed that Huang was the one arrested when protesters formed outside of the hospital during the early morning hours of September 13th.
Garvey took to Twitter, posing the rhetorical question of “why are reporters being arrested?”
Where does this idea that reporters can’t be arrested come from? Did anyone ask the police why she was arrested?
The first question that occurs to me when I see a video like that is “What did she do?”
— The Drug War (@The_Drug_War) September 13, 2020
Perhaps the better question would be “what prompted the arrest” instead of implying that reporters are somehow immune from arrestable offenses.
Well, it turns out that Huang was arrested for obstructing justice – which there’s no amount of press credentials that can afford someone the legal right to engage in the aforementioned.
Garvey claimed that the alleged crime committed by Huang is “hard to believe” because she’s “an award winning” journalist and is “respected by everyone who knows her work”.
However, while the aforementioned might speak of one’s character, none of those accolades create a shield against arrest for allegedly obstructing justice.
I’m heading to Lynwood where I sincerely hope @LASDHQ will release @josie_huang immediately. She is a fair-minded reporter respected by everyone who knows her work. She doesn’t even have her phone or wallet with her. Massive thanks to @ABC7 for picking them up off the ground.

Also, the L.A. County Sheriff’s Department noted that Huang – which they did not identify by name during their own release online – was arrested for obstructing justice.
While the Sheriff’s Office stated that they were later informed by Huang that she was a member of the press, they stated that she didn’t display any press credentials.
(3/3) The female adult, who was later identified as a member of the press, did not identify herself as press and later admitted she did not have proper press credentials on her person. Both individuals have been arrested for 148 P.C.

Huang was released mere hours after her arrest and it appears that the obstruction charge is being treated as a misdemeanor offense.
While some online are acting horrified that Huang was arrested or that it was unjust – the NPR affiliate reporter seems to have affirmed what the LASD reported as having happened.
Huang managed to capture video of her arrest to a degree, where – via her own video shared – she showcases that she was told to back away from deputies while they were enacting an arrest.
Which is consistent with the release provided by the deputies.
Somehow I was able to start a new video right away. You see my phone clatter to the ground and I start shouting “I’m a reporter…I’m with KPCC.” I scream for help from the TV reporters I know are around the corner doing their 11 p.m. live hits pic.twitter.com/O9CZNuSrQI

In the posted video description, Huang alleged that there was “nowhere to back up” when she was ordered to get away from the deputies enacting the arrest.
Then then video conveniently ends and Huang posted a follow-up video that would make most think that she was told to back up one second and then taken to the ground the next.
Except, when examining both videos from initial orders delivered by deputies to Huang taken to the ground, the distance from Huang’s perspective to that of the patrol vehicle shows that clearly some context is not being shown.
Huang arrest video analysis – Twitter
At the end of the first video where she showcased her being ordered to back away, she was maybe two or three feet away from the deputy’s vehicle. Then, cutting to the second video, her perspective shifts to appear as though she’s perhaps +20-30 feet away from the vehicle.
This means that there was likely more than one command delivered by deputies and some kind of additional interactions transpired that was not caught on film.
But this arrest was just one of many scenes that unfolded outside the hospital where the injured deputies were being treated.
Here’s our previous report on those events.
LOS ANGELES, CA – In an update regarding the two critically injured deputies that were shot on September 12th, we had reported on aspects related to protesters trying to block the entryway to the hospital emergency entrance where the two deputies were being treated.
However, new reports state that there was more than just people trying to block the entrance to the hospital – but also protesters trying to force their way into the hospital as well.

What their intentions were is not clear, but it certainly couldn’t have been good.
Additional video clips have been shared online, where officers guarding the entryway to the hospital can be seen getting harassed by protesters outside.

More videos have also been shared, showcasing a small group of individuals screaming “fuck the police” (which the video has since been deleted from Twitter) outside of the very hospital where the deputies are fighting for their lives.
Others could be heard chanting “it’s a celebration” on the video as well, essentially making reference to the deputies having been shot.
Another video showcased a man referring to the deputies shot as “two of America’s most notorious gang members” as he was making his way up to the hospital.

When the individual attempted to go into the hospital, he was immediately stopped and was informed that no one is allowed inside of the hospital for any type of visitation.
We’d previously reported on this developing situation. Here’s out original report from earlier on September 13th.
LOS ANGELES, CA – Two Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department deputies are in critical condition after being ambushed and shot multiple times on Saturday night, September 12th.
The deputies, whose names have not been released, but are said to be a 24-year-old male, and a 31-year-old female, who is the mother of a 6-year-old boy, were reportedly shot in the head multiple times, but were able to radio for help.
Update: One male deputy and one female deputy were ambushed as they sat in their patrol vehicle. Both sustained multiple gunshot wounds and are in critical condition. They are both currently undergoing surgery. The suspect is still at large.

In a late night press conference Alex Villanueva, the Los Angeles County Sheriff, said the deputies were taken to the hospital and underwent surgery. Both deputies have been members of the department for 14 months.

The department posted a video to its Twitter feed showing the gunman approaching the passenger side of the car, firing and then running away.
Sheriff Villanueva, was not mincing words in his statement saying:
“Seeing somebody just walk up and just start shooting them, it pisses me off,
“It dismays me at the same time. There’s no prettier way to say it.”
He also said:
“This is just a sober reminder that this is a dangerous job and you know actions, words have consequences, and our job does not get any easier because people don’t like law enforcement,”
In a particularly heinous act, when protesters got wind that the officers were being taken to the hospital, they blocked both the entrances and exists shouting “we hope they die!”.
The LA County Sherriffs Office tweeted:
“To the protesters blocking the entrance & exit of the HOSPITAL EMERGENCY ROOM yelling “We hope they die” referring to 2 LA Sheriff’s ambushed today in #Compton: DO NOT BLOCK EMERGENCY ENTRIES & EXITS TO THE HOSPITAL, People’s lives are at stake when ambulances can’t get through.”

Deputies issued a dispersal order to the group of protesters blocking the hospital emergency entrance and exits, when an adult male protester refused to comply and cooperate, which resulted in police attempting to take him into custody as he resisted.
While police were struggling to make the arrest, an unidentified woman ran towards the deputies, ignoring repeated commands to stay back, and interfered with the arrest.
The woman, later identified as Josie Huang, a member of the press, admitted she was not wearing the proper press credentials to identify herself.
According to the LA County Sherriffs Office, Both individuals have been arrested for 148 P.C.
