Police are massing outside the Mile-End, Montreal offices of game developer Ubisoft amid reports of a possible hostage situation, according to reports.
Staffers are barricading on the roof and in a conference room, according to local outlet TVA Nouvelles.
The hostage situation has been developing since 1:30 p.m. Eastern time; by 3 p.m. TVA Nouvelles is reporting that a group of suspects is believed to be holding dozens of people hostage in the gaming company’s offices and demanding ransom.
Montreal mayor Valérie Plante tweeted in French, “My team is in close communication with the @SPVM and we are monitoring the situation closely. We invite Montrealers to avoid the Mile-End sector.#polmtl”
