A pair of alleged armed robbers got more than they bargained for during an attempted raid on a dentist’s office on Thursday.
Dramatic CCTV footage of the incident surfaced on social media showing two men, armed with knives, storming the office while a man was undergoing a regular check-up.
However, unbeknownst to the alleged robbers on the clip, the man in the chair was in fact an off-duty police officer and things were about to go badly wrong for the criminal pair.
Shared on Reddit by netmiss under the caption “Happy ending for dentist’s office being mugged” the clip chronicles the entire dramatic confrontation and has earned over 60,000 upvotes already.
In the video, a man can be seen having his teeth examined by a fully masked dentist sitting in a chair behind his head.
The examination is soon disrupted though by the sight of a man wearing shorts who comes to the doorway of the room. It quickly becomes apparent he is holding a knife.
The dentist can be seen gesturing for calm before two other people, thought to be either staff or visitors, are ushered into the room with all three standing against the wall.
Another woman joins them, while at least three men can be seen either standing in the room or stalking the corridor outside to check if anyone else is in the office.
Aware of what is unfolding, the man sitting in the dentist’s chair slowly gets up and lies down on the floor. One of the men brandishing knives, who is wearing an Adidas hooded sweatshirt, approaches the man on the ground.
Suddenly a struggle ensues, with the dental patient quickly gaining the upper hand.
As the video continues it becomes apparent that the man who came in for his dentist appointment is carrying a gun.
He points it at the man in the Adidas sweatshirt, who lies flat on the ground with his hands on his head. Approaching the corridor, the armed patient is attacked by another of the armed men but once again subdues him. The clip ends with him standing over the second man.
According to a report by Globo, the incident took place at a dental clinic in the Federal District of Ceilândia in Brazil just after 10 A.M. on Thursday, November 11.
The man filmed fighting back against the two intruders asked not to be named. He was described as a 46-year-old who has worked as part of Brazil’s Federal District Military Police for the past 25 years.
He was visiting the dentist to have a broken tooth fixed when the incident unfolded. The two men armed with knives were identified by Globo as both being 19-years-old.
The report states the second of the two men confronted by the off-duty officer during the attempted raid was shot, though his injury was not said to be life-threatening.
After subduing the two men, the police officer asked a member of staff to contact the authorities. He then reportedly stood watch over the two suspects while they arrived on the scene.

The incident comes a month after similar security camera footage captured a Marine veteran disarming a pair of robbers at a gas station in the U.S.
More recently still, a Chinese academic was able to ward off a mugger with a kung-fu kick.
