PLYMOUTH, Mass. (AP) — A police officer in Plymouth shot and killed a K-9 after the dog attacked the officer on Tuesday, officials said.

Police said the Plymouth officer and police dog were in a commercial parking lot when the dog turned on the officer. The officer was unable to get the dog under control and shot the dog, police said.

The officer was taken to the hospital with injuries to his arms and hands but is expected to be OK, officials said.

No other details were immediately available.
