Santana Row retailers are reopening, with some adjustments for COVID-19 restrictions.
Sephora is now open for inside shopping, but trying on of makeup is no longer allowed. Outdoor pickup is available for those who prefer to order online.
The Santana Row location of Sur La Table is currently open but will be closing next month. Baldwin, a boutique clothing retailer featuring American-made denim, is also closing.
Stepping into Baldwin’s shoes is Faherty, which carries clothing for men and women. The clothing line is family-owned by Alex and Mike Faherty, two brothers who grew up in a small New Jersey beach town living the surfing life. They dreamed about a brand that merged a love of casual surf culture with high-quality, durable and sustainable materials and turned that vision into reality in 2013. Their clothing is carried in 300 stores nationwide, and they make some really cool cotton masks. The Santana Row store is set to open in early December.
On the restaurant front, there is ample outdoor space with proper social distancing at almost all of Santana Row’s hottest dining spots. Zazil has two distinct seating areas, giving diners plenty of room to spread out without any need for interaction.
Zazil chef Yerika Muñoz Rodríguez is putting her experience at high-end restaurants in Northern Mexico and Peru to good use here in a crescendo of complexly layered and flavorful dishes that hail from the diverse culinary regions of Mexico. Some stem from family recipes, including the fruity red mole sauce her Grandmother made, which adorns the enchiladas. Get a dark, chocolatey mole with chicken poblano or as a vegetarian dish with crispy roasted cauliflower.
El Jardin is undergoing a remodel, with the construction of a new overhang to allow outdoor dining throughout the fall and into the winter. They plan to reopen by the end of September.
Pizza Antica has many more outdoor tables now, stretching clear down to Madewell, but so popular is this spot that there’s often a one- to two-hour wait on weekends.
To work off the calories, Barry’s Bootcamp is holding outdoor classes on the rooftop of the new Olsen Street parking garage, where astroturf has been installed for the comfort of those working out. SoulCycle will be reopening later this month for rooftop outdoor classes, too.
Personal grooming is also being done outdoors, with Aveda salon offering haircuts outside. Lavande Nail Spa is now doing nail services in the outdoor space next to Left Bank.
Heaters are being purchased by Federal Realty to ensure dining comfort throughout the seasons, and they’re considering big tents to enclose spaces from LB Steak to Pizza Antica, and from Left Bank to Zazil.
