The city’s latest statistics for its daily coronavirus indicators are “a reminder of how much we have to stick to the plan,” Mayor Bill de Blasio said Tuesday as hospitalizations and the number of patients in intensive care units spiked.
“Today is a mixed bag,” de Blasio said of the stats, which have a two-day reporting lag, during his daily press briefing.
Patients in ICUs for suspected coronavirus across the city’s 11 public hospitals rose from 475 on Sunday to 492 on Monday, while the number of people admitted to Big Apple hospitals also ticked up from 48 on Sunday to 57 on Monday, the city data shows.
The percentage of people tested citywide who are positive for COVID-19, however, dropped from 11 percent Sunday to 9 percent on Monday.
“I very much like to see that single-digit number,” de Blasio said of the statistic.
Hizzoner concluded, “Mixed bag. More to do,” and told New Yorkers to “take some real comfort and some real inspiration from that last number because that’s a real good sign.”
