A mountain lion was spotted over the weekend in a Jefferson County Open Space park west of Chatfield Reservoir.

The apex predator sighting was reported in Deer Creek Canyon Park, 13388 Grizzly Dr., Littleton, according to open space officials.

The foothills park has multiple trails for hikers, bicyclists and equestrian use, according to open space. Elk and bear also use the park, and officials urge visitors to be aware of possible rattlesnake encounters.

“Be aware of your surroundings!” park officials said in announcing the mountain lion sighting.

Park users should make sure to keep dogs on leash at all times. Anyone who has “interactions” with mountain lions, and other wildlife, is asked to report the experience to JeffCo Open Space.
