While Palm Beach County School district, the 10th largest in the nation, implemented a mandatory mask policy, Superintendent Michael Burke during an interview with MSNBC noted the rule had to require an option for parents to opt their children out, if they want. Of the district’s 179,000 students, he said about 5,700 — about 3% of the population — have decided to go without masks during the school day.
