coronavirus 1

The Marine Corps announced Wednesday that its No. 2 officer has tested positive for coronavirus.

Assistant commandant of the Marine Corps, General Gary Thomas, is experiencing mild symptoms, “but otherwise is feeling well,” the Marines said.

Thomas had been self-quarantining since Tuesday after coming into contact with somebody who later tested positive for the virus, the service said.

He is the second military officer to test positive this week. The other, the Coast Guard’s No. 2 official, Admiral Charles Ray, attended meetings with Thomas and other top military officials at the Pentagon last week.

Ray’s diagnosis forced nearly all of the military’s Joint Chiefs of Staff who attended the meeting to go into self-quarantine.

Army General Mark Milley, Trump’s top military adviser, was self-isolating, as was the vice chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and military leaders including the chiefs of the Army, Navy, Air Force and Space Force.
