Citing a report in German language publication Der Standard, Vice reports the 22-year-old defendant’s argument did not pass muster with a judge, who rules that a fart lacks “communicative content” and fined him $138. The defendant, who claimed he did not wantonly target the officer with the discharge, had initially been assessed a $689 ticket. He had no prior offenses.
