The Giants will be facing a very familiar rival in Clayton Kershaw on Thursday night, but little else about their season-opening game against the Dodgers in Los Angeles will seem commonplace.
From the Giants manager Gabe Kapler and his players and coaches kneeling during the national anthem, to the lack of fans in the stands, the first real baseball game in the COVID-19 era will have a completely different look.
The Giants, fresh off a two-game sweep of the A’s earlier this week in summer camp baseball, will send Johnny Cueto to the mound to start against the Dodgers, the presumptive World Series favorite. Cueto will have to deal with an explosive Dodgers lineup led by slugger Cody Bellinger and newly acquired Mookie Betts, who signed a monstrous 12-year, $365 million deal Wednesday.
