Jamison Crowder could play in the Jets’ season opener Sunday after testing positive for COVID-19 last week, head coach Robert Saleh said Monday.
Crowder is vaccinated, meaning the veteran wide receiver will need two negative tests 24 hours apart this week to be eligible to play Sunday against the Panthers.
Saleh added that Crowder’s positive test was an isolated incident with no other close contacts among the team. He also said no other players presently are dealing with COVID issues after returning to the team’s practice facility in Florham Park. The Jets had a weekend off ahead of the opener.
“Everybody already came back and tested, so we’ve already cleared that hurdle,” Saleh said. “So we’re not anticipating that as of now.”
According to Saleh, starting left tackle Mekhi Becton also is out of concussion protocol and is practicing Monday. He’s expected to be officially cleared on Tuesday to play against Carolina.
With running back La’Michal Perine dealing with a foot injury, the Jets signed Josh Adams to the active roster. They also made the signing of safety Sheldrick Redwine official and added safeties Jarrod Wilson and Adrian Colbert to the practice squad.
