Believer, life on planet earth is noticeably different
than it was a few short weeks ago. Who could have imagined citizens
universally being told to stay home from work and play? And no one
would have guessed that we’d be faced with empty shelves at the
market. But here we are, and people are worried, they’re anxious,
and in need. But where some see uncertainty, I see
opportunity.
Colossians 4:5 KJV – “Walk in wisdom toward
them that are without, redeeming the time.”
Those around us can see that Christians are not exempt from
adversity – it comes to us just like them – but unlike them, we
can experience freedom from worry. Fretting is assuming a
responsibility that was never intended to be ours. It’s like a
three-year-old wringing their hands over the mortgage when dad’s
bank account has an abundance. In times such as these, we can go
about the business of life with confidence because our heavenly
Father knows our needs before we’re aware of them, and when we do
ask, He answers. (Matthew
6:25-34). When anxious thoughts assault us, and they will, we
need to let this promise wash over our souls and saturate our
minds, “You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed
on You, because he trusts in You.” (Isaiah 26:3).
It is reasonable to trust in the Father who freely gave His own
Son that you might be saved. He will not forsake you now. You are
inscribed on the palms of His hands. (Isaiah
49:15-16). The power of the cross sets us free from the tyranny
of worry.
The real need of our anxiety-ridden world isn’t health
or stocked shelves, it is peace with God that brings the peace of
God. Open your front door and step outside, while praying
a neighbor does the same. They may never read a Bible, but in that
moment, you are the Bible. Give them an encouraging word, a loaf of
bread or can of tuna from your cupboard and then tell them why you
have hope. In every crisis there is opportunity. May we not
allow this one to pass without sharing the good news of eternal
life.
