Follow the science? Wisconsin agency mandates masks be
worn…for Zoom meetings 1

This editorial is brought to you by a former Chief of Police and current staff writer for Law Enforcement Today.

MADISON, WI- While Americans are being admonished to “follow the science” when it comes to coronavirus mandates, government officials appear to just be making it up as they go.

Take Wisconsin, for example. One state agency has mandated employees wear masks during video conferences, even if they are home alone. Seriously.

Is it any wonder why people are starting to lose their collective minds over mindless government mandates relative to COVID-19? The abject stupidity and subjectivity of the executive orders being issued by governors is absolutely mind-boggling.

In a state such as Massachusetts, for example you can have soda while your golfing, but you cannot have a beer. In New York, chicken wings do not qualify as a “meal”, but soup does. You get the point.

The New York Post is reporting that in a July 31 email, Department of Natural Resources Secretary Preston Cole advised employees that the governor’s mask order, which requires anyone over the age of four to wear a face-covering while indoors took effect on Aug. 1, according to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

According to the paper, Cole said:

“Also, wear your mask, even if you are home, to participate in a virtual meeting that involves being seen—such as on Zoom or another video-conferencing platform—by non-DNR staff,”

He continued:

“Set the safety example which shows you as a DNR public service employee care about the safety and health of others.”

Got that? According to this Wisconsin agency, and apparently the governor, if you are in your home, by yourself, on a video conference, apparently COVID-19 can transmit through fiber-optic lines and infect people through their computer screens. Have you figured out, yet this is less about public safety and health and more about control? The stupidity is absolutely mind-boggling.

How can the Wisconsin state government get away with this? Because they can. No court has yet to step in and rule these ridiculous mandates unconstitutional, even though in many cases they fly in the face of at least the First Amendment, and probably the Fourth.

Otherwise, how does a city such as New York ban religious services while allowing riots and protests to take place? Because they can.

The CDC, which is the agency whose guidelines governors are supposed to be following, has said that there is absolutely no reason to wear masks inside your own residence. However, that matters not to the dictators in Wisconsin apparently.

Wisconsin’s Department of Natural Resources spokeswoman Megan Sheridan told McClatchy News:

“By wearing a mask while video conferencing with the general public, we visually remind folds that masking is an important part of navigating the business of natural resources during this tumultuous time,”

Despite the fact that Wisconsin Gov. Tony Evers’ (D) executive order does not require wearing a mask in your own residence, it is more important apparently for this particular agency to show others that they are taking this stuff seriously.

Evers’ executive order does order wearing a mask in enclosed spaces; however it makes an exception for people’s own residences.

Sure, forcing government officials to show their personal “sacrifice” of wearing masks for online meetings may set a good “example,” however, all it shows is that Democrat-run states are taking this newly found power and letting it go to their collective heads.

Pelosi is always complaining about the president, saying that he’s not “following the science,” yet Democrats only use that as a convenient talking point. Just look at the fiasco currently going on with whether or not to send kids back to school.

There is no science that shows children are going to be put at higher risk by sending them back to the classroom. Likewise, Democrats, who are bowing to their union bosses in the teachers’ unions are not taking the “science” of increased risk of suicides, social dysfunction, child abuse and other maladies into account. They only “follow the science” when it is politically expedient to do so.

Where are we at with masks to begin with? The narrative has flip-flopped more than Joe Biden does within the same statement.

First Dr. Fauci said masks were not necessary, then they were, then they weren’t as effective as first thought, and now the Democrats, in particular Biden, want to make it mandatory in and outside for the next three months. Of course, what happens in three months? The election.

What a convenient choice of dates for Biden to mandate masks up to and until.

Under Wisconsin’s mandate, there are certain exceptions to the mask order, including when someone is eating, drinking or swimming. There is also an exemption for people who have either health conditions or disabilities that prevent them from being able to wear a mask or face covering safely.

In July, Evers said:

“We need to get back to working together statewide to flatten the curve and to prevent the spread of the virus.

The most important thing you can do is serve as an example to those around you by wearing a mask or face covering [which have since been proven to be ineffective], practicing physical distancing, and following best safety practices.”

Apparently, when you are sitting in front of a computer screen by yourself as well. You simply cannot make this stuff up.
