The move came amid a wave of layoffs at other Chicago museums and zoos that is expected to continue until nearly every institution, forced to close its doors in mid-March to help prevent the spread of COVID-19, has let workers go. Already, Adler Planetarium, Museum of Science and Industry, Brookfield Zoo, Lincoln Park Zoo, Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum and Chicago Children’s Museum have laid off and/or furloughed workers to save expenses, although the magnitude of the cuts has varied widely.
