WASHINGTON — Major League Baseball has postponed this rest of this weekend’s Mets-Nationals series due to the COVID-19 outbreak among the Nationals, meaning the Mets will kick off their 2021 season Monday night against the Phillies at Citizens Bank Park — barring any other delays.

The league announced the postponement “due to continued follow-up testing and contact tracing involving members of the Nationals organization.” As of Thursday, three Nationals players had tested positive for the novel coronavirus, with a fourth “likely” positive, per Washington general manager Mike Rizzo.

The games will be rescheduled for later in the season. The Mets return here twice more and the geographical proximity between the two clubs makes a one-off, on a common off day, viable as well.
