Coronavirus: Second inmate at San Jose jail tests positive 1

SAN JOSE – A second inmate at the Santa Clara County Main Jail in San Jose has tested positive for COVID-19, authorities said Wednesday.

The inmate, identified as a 25-year-old homeless man, was arrested by San Jose police officers Monday, according to the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office. As he was being booked into the jail, he revealed he had been exposed to the coronavirus through a friend.

The sheriff’s office said the inmate was masked and taken to an infirmary, where he was isolated until his test results came back positive Tuesday night. He remains quarantined and is being monitored by medical personnel.

The sheriff’s office notified San Jose police of the possible exposure to the arresting officers.

The first inmate who tested positive for COVID-19 has since recovered and is no longer in custody.
