California’s coronavirus crisis is expected by some to peak this week.
Sunday and Monday, the state added fewer than 1,000 new cases after nearly two weeks of four-digit case growth. Still, the total count is growing with more than 24,000 cases and 724 deaths confirmed by county health officials, according to data compiled by this news organization.
Even if this week is the state’s peak in hospitalizations, there is much for officials to sort out before California can reopen, which Gov. Newsom said Monday would happen alongside Oregon and Washington.
