Coronavirus letter: Flags honoring Fremont’s fallen a touching surprise

Coronavirus letter: Flags honoring Fremont’s fallen a
touching surprise 1

On Memorial Day, I prepared flowers from my garden to decorate the graves of family members who served in the military and headed off to Irvington Memorial Cemetery in Fremont.

In the past, the Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts have decorated the graves of those who served with flags and I have always experienced great pride in seeing this display across the landscape and the commitment of the young people who performed this service.

However, this year because of the COVID-19 pandemic, I didn’t expect to see such a display.

Imagine my surprise when, upon driving onto the grounds, I saw all the carefully placed little flags. I cried and smiled at the same time.

A great thank you to all who did this honoring our fallen on Memorial Day.
