Gov. Andrew Cuomo has ordered that all barbershops, hair and nail salons, piercing shops, tattoo parlors and other personal care services will close indefinitely starting Saturday night to fight the spread of the coronavirus.
The executive order is the latest measure the governor has instituted, including the closing of malls, movie theaters, amusement parks, gyms, zoos and bowling alleys.
All “indoor common portions” of shopping malls larger than 100,000 feet were ordered to close starting at 8 p.m. Thursday.
A portion of the latest executive order from Thursday reads:
“Effective March 21, 2020 at 8 p.m. and until further notice, all barbershops, hair salons, tattoo or piercing parlors and related personal care services will be closed to members of the public.
“This shall also include nail technicians, cosmetologists and estheticians, and the provision of electrolysis, laser hair removal services, as these services cannot be provided while maintaining social distance.”
Cuomo on Thursday also ordered 75 percent of the workforce in nonessential services to remain at home, up from 50 percent a day earlier.
Essential services include grocery stores, pharmacies, health care, shipping and supplies.
