Broadway is back — and so is coronavirus.
The “Aladdin” show has been halted after several positive COVID-19 tests. The show reopened on Broadway on Tuesday but has since been shut down again.
Disney Theatrical Productions announced on Wednesday that the musical’s upcoming shows would be canceled.
“Through our rigorous testing protocols, breakthrough COVID-19 cases have been detected within the company of ‘Aladdin’ at the New Amsterdam Theater,” the company said in an official statement.
The company said they would refund customers’ tickets, and admitted that they don’t when the show will up and running again.
“We will continue to provide support to the affected ‘Aladdin’ company members as they recover,” they said.
It was announced on Sept. 14 that NYC’s Theater District would turn on its lights again and reopen to the masses for the first time since shutting down in March 2020.
Broadway shows such as “Hamilton,” “Wicked,” “The Lion King,” and “Chicago” would have 100 percent capacity in their auditoriums.
“At least 30 shows are reopening between now and the end of the year,” said Anne del Castillo, commissioner of the New York City Mayor’s Office of Media and Entertainment.
