The outbreak of coronavirus in Contra Costa County rose higher Wednesday, as the county logged more than two dozen additional COVID-19 positive patients.
In an update Wednesday afternoon, the Contra Costa Health Services Department said a total of 250 residents have tested positive for the virus.
The number went up by 28 in a 24-hour span from the announced count of 222 on Tuesday afternoon, which saw the biggest one-day increase in positive patients confirmed in the county since the outbreak of COVID-19 started.
Officials had said 187 residents tested positive Monday, and 175 on Sunday. Last Friday, the county had logged 147 cases, an increase of just over a hundred from March 20.
Health officials from seven Bay Area counties released an order March 17 requiring residents to shelter-in-place at residences unless seeking or providing essential services for at least three weeks. This week, that order was extended through May 3 with additional restrictions.
