Coping during COVID-19: Repurposing my stash of fabric for
masks 1

We asked readers to tell us how they’re coping during the COVID-19 pandemic. Today, we bring you some of the responses. We will publish more in the days ahead. To read all of the Coping series, click here.

My husband and I are fortunate to own our home outright and are both retired.  Our daughter and 8-year-old grandson live in their own basement apartment below us but we still keep our distance.

I purchased yardage from fabric shops over many years to craft Raggedy Ann dolls, patch-work quilts, dresses for my daughter and clothing for the sock monkeys I create.  Now I am sewing 100% cotton masks from my stash.

We donate most to the Alameda Fire Department but have given out some to neighbors and passersby.  I make about 15 to 20 a day.  So far, we have given out over 150 masks.
