Coping during COVID-19: Drinks optional during our virtual cocktail hour

Coping during COVID-19: Drinks optional during our virtual
cocktail hour 1

We asked readers to tell us how they’re coping during the COVID-19 pandemic. Today, we bring you more of their responses.

Every evening at 5 p.m., my husband and I meet with four other couples for a virtual cocktail hour. Drinks are optional, but I’d be remiss not to add that wine glasses have been spotted.

We decide on a topic in advance. So far, we have discussed both an assigned movie and a TV limited series. We have played two word games revised for distancing and have had a joke night.  We have debated politics, had a show and tell with vacation souvenirs and have played Three Truths and a Lie. We have answered questions from conversation starters found on the internet and added more of our own.

The one rule is no talking about COVID-19. As much as we hate being secluded, when this is over, I’m sure everyone in the group will miss our frequent get-togethers.

We also welcome more submissions. Whether you’re working from home, out of work or a critical frontline worker, we’d like to hear from you. Think of this as an opportunity to share with other readers. Not about politics, but about how you’re getting by and how this challenging time affects you.

Send submissions to [email protected]. Please include, for publication, your name and your city, and a horizontal photo of you. Please also include, not for publication, your address and phone number. Please limit your thoughts to 250 words.
