Only 2% of Americans are fully vaccinated against COVID-19 as of Feb. 3. Virus cases and hospitalization numbers are dropping across the country; some states are still safer than others, mainly due to how well they have kept the pandemic under control.
WalletHub compared the 50 states and the District of Columbia across five key metrics. The dataset includes the rates of COVID-19 transmission, positive testing, hospitalizations and death, as well as the share of the eligible population getting vaccinated.
Here’s how Colorado stacked up nationwide:
- 16th – Vaccination Rate
- 12th – Positive Testing Rate
- 10th – Hospitalization Rate
- Ninth – Death Rate
- Second – Transmission Rate
These numbers led Colorado to be the fourth safest state right now during the pandemic. Only Alaska, North Dakota and Hawaii scored higher than the Centennial State in WalletHub’s study.
Colorado’s cases are down 24% from two weeks ago, with a total of 403,412 reported since the first case on March 5, 2020. Statewide hospitalization is also down 27% in the last 14 days.
On Thursday, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said about 27.9 million people had received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine, including about 6.9 million people who have been fully vaccinated.
On average, about 1.3 million doses per day are being administered.
In Colorado, 8.4% of the population has received one shot and 2.6% has been fully vaccinated.
