Colorado corrections officers shoot man wanted on parole
violation in southeast Denver 1

An investigation is underway in southeast Denver after Colorado Department of Corrections officers shot a man they say was armed and who was wanted on a parole violation, police said Wednesday.

The man who was shot has been taken to a local hospital in “extremely critical condition,” Denver police Division Chief Joe Montoya said at an afternoon news conference.

The shooting happened at about 11 a.m. in the 1000 block of South Parker Road, according to Denver police.

Denver police were not on scene at the time of the shooting, Montoya said. Officers with the fugitive apprehension unit of the Department of Corrections encountered the suspect, who they said was armed, and officers fired.

The shooting happened in a hallway at an apartment complex, Montoya said. No officers were injured.

The suspect was not immediately identified. An investigation is ongoing.
