Kendall Coyne Schofield’s involvement with the Blackhawks is not new.

The Palos Heights native and star of the U.S. Women’s National Ice Hockey Team had worked as a community liaison for the Hawks in recent years, and made history as part of the first all-female broadcast team to call the Hawks-Blues game on NBC Sports Network on March 8.

But as of Monday, she’s the Hawks’ first-ever female Player Development Coach, a role that formalizes her work with the organization.

Coyne Schofield will also continue her work with Chicago kids as the Hawks’ Youth Hockey Growth Specialist, maintaining her preexisting all-girls program — the “Golden Coynes.”

The two-time Olympian headlined the Hawks’ Monday additions to their front office — their second time significantly changing the complexion of the front office in 2020.

The team also hired retired NHL forward Erik Condra as another Player Development Coach, hired Juan Gonzalez as the Rockford IceHogs’ Strength and Conditioning Coach and promoted Meghan Hunter to Director of Hockey Administration.

Condra, a Michigan native and Notre Dame alumnus, played 372 games for the Senators, Lightning and Stars from 2010 to 2019, retiring just last year.

Gonzalez, a Chicago native and Loras College alumnus, previously served as a strength and conditioning advisor for the USA Hockey National Development Program.

“Adding talented people with diverse and multi-faceted backgrounds like Kendall, Erik and Juan enhances our operations as we assess the changing landscape of hockey at all levels and continue to build and maintain a system of elite hockey,” Bowman said in a press release.

Hunter, an Ontario native and former University of Wisconsin hockey star, previously served as general manager Stan Bowman’s senior assistant. In addition to her new director position, she’ll also now help with amateur scouting.
