Two new deaths from the novel coronavirus were reported in the Bay Area Monday, according to data compiled by this news organization.

One person died in San Francisco County, while another died in Contra Costa County, health officials reported.

San Francisco‘s total number of confirmed COVID-19 deaths is now 43, while the county added 12 new cases for a total of 2,570 since the pandemic began.

Contra Costa County, meanwhile, now counts 38 confirmed deaths — the least in the Bay Area save for Marin County, which has 14. A total of 1,468 people have been sickened with coronavirus since the start of the pandemic. Fourteen people are hospitalized with the illness, up one since the end of last week.

Alameda County, which is the hardest-hit county in terms of cases, reported 80 new infections for a total of 3,470. No new deaths were reported; the total remains at 96, trailing Santa Clara with 141 deaths. Ninety-nine people were hospitalized with the virus as of Sunday, 37 of which are in the intensive-care unit.

San Mateo County likewise reported 61 new cases for a total of 2,165, according to health officials, with a steady death count of 84 people. Fifty-seven people are hospitalized with the illness, 15 of which are in the ICU.
