ALAMEDA — The USS Hornet Museum in Alameda will reopen on Saturday for the first time in months, but with certain limitations.
The museum will only be open Friday through Sundays, between the hours of 10 a.m. to. 5 p.m. Thursdays will be open to museums only. It has been closed since March 13 due to the coronavirus pandemic and shelter-in-place order.
Only the open air portions of the museum will be available during museum visits– the Hangar Bay and Flight Deck. All enclosed areas, such as below deck and Island areas will be off limits.
Docents will be available to speak to guests about the parts visible, and those that aren’t. Virtual tours are also being offered.
The USS Hornet Memorial Band will play on Saturday for several hours as guests board the ship.
The USS Hornet will follow all safety measures such as mask wearing and social distancing. All staff and volunteers will have to have their temperature checked as they board the ship.
There will be a limit of 50 guests per hour, a total of 300 per day. Adjusted pricing for COVID-19 is now $15 for adults, $10 for seniors, military or students and $5 for youth ages 7 to 17.
