A motorist stabbed three pro-Armenian protesters who were blocking traffic during a rally in California, a report said.
The suspect, 41-year-old Jaime Fonseca, allegedly launched into a rage when the crowd blocked his car at a busy intersection in Fresno on Wednesday evening, the Los Angeles Times reported.
Fonseca allegedly got out of his car with a knife and a wooden baton and confronted the marchers, who were carrying pro-Armenia signs and anti-Turkish banners, according to the report.
He then allegedly started destroying the signs, stabbing the three people as he sliced them with the knife, the report said.
In a statement, Fresno police told the newspaper that it did not appear to be a hate crime or politically motivated.
“There were no statements made regarding race or indicating this is a hate crime,” they told the newspaper.
Armenian Americans have been protesting across the US this month to draw attention to a brutal conflict between the country and neighbor Azerbaijan over disputed territory.
