A Texas councilman and his husband died two days apart in the same hospital from the coronavirus, according to a report.
Anthony Brooks, 52, a councilman in Live Oak — a San Antonio suburb — died last Tuesday at Methodist Hospital Metropolitan, three weeks after testing positive for the illness, according to the San Antonio Express-News.
Brooks’ husband of five years, 42-year-old salon owner Phillip Tsai-Brooks, died two days before on Easter Sunday, the report said.
“Tony Brooks and Phillip Tsai loved each other so much, and they left this world together,” Tsai-Brooks’ brother, Alfred Tsai told the paper.
“It’s a love story that ended too soon in this world, but in heaven, it will last for eternity.”
Family members believe Brooks, also an Air Force veteran who worked as a research analyst at Joint Base San Antonio-Fort Sam Houston, was infected in mid-March after returning from a conference.
But reeling from the March 12 death of his father, Brooks did not seek medical attention, his family told the newspaper.
Several days later Phillip Tsai fell ill, heading to the hospital on March 20.
Phillip Tsai wasn’t admitted then, but returned to the hospital on March 26 with worsening symptoms and tested positive for the virus.
On March 31, Brooks was found unconscious on the couple’s living room sofa. He was taken to the hospital in critical condition, where he also tested positive for the virus, the report said.
A few days later, both men were transferred to Methodist Hospital Metropolitan, where they later died.
Another sibling of Phillip Tsai’s called on people to socially distance to help prevent the spread of the virus.
“We urge EVERYONE to stay home! Stop the spread! You don’t want to go through what we are going through. Rest in peace, Tony and Phillip. Still in disbelief,” Anthony Tsai wrote in a Facebook post.
