The gunshots fired by Stokes were overheard by the student’s classmates and the teacher called 911 to the child’s home.

A sister of the victim told police she had heard the gunshots and saw her brother leaving the house. Stokes told her that he was on the way to the police to turn himself in, according to a criminal complaint.

He reportedly walked to District 4 police headquarters and told the desk sergeant there that “his sister no longer existed, that he did it and that he used a .380” after an argument that ensued between the siblings on the previous night, the complaint said.
